Improving Your Flexibility – stretching and mobilising your body, from a Contortionist perspective. Classes are hosted by Taylor Vogt.
Tuesday nights, 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm.
Have you ever wanted to get that flexibility back you had from your childhood, push the limits of your body for performing arts or improve your range of motion for better health purposes? Improving your flexibility has multiple health benefits, however is not generally taught outside of physiotherapy or yoga and can be difficult to learn on your own.
These group sessions will go through:
- Safe methods of improving flexibility
- Differences between passive and active flexibility and stretching
- Utilizing strength and muscle activation exercises to improve flexibility
- Correct posture while stretching
- Beginner to intermediate contortion based tricks (for those seeking to improve in performing arts)
- Working towards personalised goals
- Optional flexibility programs to use outside of classes
Each class will be over a 2 hour period (weekly basis) and will focus on improving leg, shoulder and back flexibility (and associated tricks for those looking to improve their skills in performing arts). All levels of flexibility and backgrounds are welcome to attend classes (parkour, aerials, pole-dancing, etc.), from those wanting to touch their toes, achieve splits or generally improve their range of motion.
My experience:
These sessions are hosted by myself (Taylor Vogt) and I am a fire performer, teacher and contortionist. I have worked with Adelaide’s very own Dragonmill and have performed and taught fire skills around the world in Europe, Russia and China. I have also been training as a contortionist for over a year now since starting with yoga to fix major shoulder injuries. After training alone, I have experienced various issues (torn muscles, incorrect posture) with safely improving my flexibility without professional guidance. As a result, I studied and learned skills from international contortion teachers to develop my skills and understanding of flexibility and how to teach it which I desire to share.
